Subhyracodon is an extinct genus of hornless rhinoceros. At 2.4 m long and with an estimated weight of 400 kg, it was a tapir-sized herbivore that lived on the plains of early Oligocene South Dakota, 33 million years ago. It coexisted with other perissodactyls such as horses, brontotheres and chalicotheres. Having no horns, Subhyracodon relied more on its speed to escape predators.
