R. Emmerson Stoneware Pottery Stout Beer Bottle Newcastle UK 1879-1920. A ceramic beer bottle. The maker is Buchan, of Portobello, Edinburgh (Scotland). It was made for the company R. Emmerson Junior, New Castle on Tyne. The penny-farthing image (the photograph of the high-wheel bicycle) shows the first bicycle design. The bottle also has an internal screw stopper patented by H. C. W. SWEETMAN Barrett & Elers. The internal thread design was invented and patented by Henry Barrett in 1879. Internal screw stopper types were used only between 1879 and about 1920.
