Robert Laillet "Knight - Gothic sculpture of Chartres Cathedral " original photograph, circa 1930.
The artist's studio stamp on the verso.
Robert Laillet was a photographer from Chartres who worked as a postcard publisher in Chartres between 1907 and 1944. He had two shops, one in the rue Delacroix and the other at the south portal of Chartres Cathedral, „À l'Asne qui Vielle”.
This is an original 1930s photograph of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres (Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Chartres) in France. The cathedral survived several wars and, although the lead roof was taken down and melted to make bullets, the architecture has undergone only minor alterations. The stained glass is largely original. The building is regarded as an example of French Gothic of the very highest order.
Condition as shown in the photographs.
